Actually we already have a 5th Dimension.... time. And many believe there are others (to explain strange quantum qirks such as anti-gravity on that scale!) But a curvature doens't neccesarily imply another dimension as both of your examples are fairly simplistic.

Ooops... meant 4th :) Anyways, the reason why you needed to 'add' a dimension in your examples is becuase you could not describe your position in the current co-ordinate system...... 3 dimensions + time will be quite adequate to describe your position in the universe..... assuming a central reference point around which the universe folds. Meh... too heavy for a monday :)

I know, but the thought of time in a dimensional sense is purely theoretical, and not entirely accepted, to fold 3D u would need a 4D...if you were to accept this a being time, which after a night of freaky shaped people in dreams, im also prepared to do, it raises questions of existentialism, timetravel, parallel worlds and other stuff i really prefer not to think about hehehe... I used simplistic stuff to help out those not quite ready for the tripping that has been happening :) Why do you say dimensional folding would not require a 4th dimension? and then say it can be described in terms of the 3 dimensions + time, which as you've said could be used as a 4th dimension...
